John Carney, PhD

Dr. John Carney joined DARPA as Program Manager in September 2000. Dr. Carney has participated in the pharmaceutical industry as professor, researcher and entrepreneur. Eight years ago, after holding Associate Professor positions at the Universities of Oklahoma, Kentucky-Lexington, Dr. Carney took a leave of absence from teaching to commercialize his research in stroke medication. The company he founded, Centaur Pharmaceuticals, Sunnyvale, California, now has several promising drugs in phase II and phase III clinical trials.

Dr. Carney received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Mary's College, St. Mary, California, his Master's of Science degree in Zoology from San Diego State University, San Diego, California, his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan and has more patents [over 150] than publications [over 120].
