Executive Vice-President, Co-founder and Chief Science Officer,
Dr. Karen Talmadge, will share her experiences with Kyphon, a company
that brought balloon technology into orthopedics for the treatment of
spinal fractures caused by osteoporosis. We'll hear the start-up
transition from scientist to business person, the difficulties getting
funded, the twists and turns as the business and clinical plan
evolved, and the challenges pre- and post-IPO.

Dr. Talmadge co-founded Kyphon and has served as a member of our board of directors since inception. She has also served as our Chief Science Officer since June 2003 and as Executive Vice President since November 1998. From January 1994 to November 1998, Dr. Talmadge served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and Treasurer. Dr. Talmadge holds an A.B. in Biology from Bryn Mawr College and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Harvard University.
